Plate return playbook
You ran the plate. LEADS came back. Now what? One card per return type: whether it is a legal basis, what to do before you activate, what to sort out at the window, the charge, and the ways officers get burned.
Rule one: confirm the plate read before you act on anything. Rule two: the return gets you to the car; the driver's identity and your observations decide everything after that. Statutes cite 625 ILCS 5 unless noted; verify current text and your department's tow and arrest policy.
